A very expensive 0.3 grams: Senior citizen’s late-night stroll ends in a free ride to the station

By Belize Live News Staff (HP): Police in Orange Walk Town have charged a man following the discovery of suspected crack cocaine during a routine patrol operation.

According to authorities, officers were patrolling Staines Alley on the night of April 14, 2026, when they noticed a man who quickly discarded an item upon seeing the police vehicle.

A search of the area led to the recovery of two pieces of a white substance believed to be crack cocaine. The individual was detained, informed of the offence, and escorted to the police station.

There, the suspected drugs were weighed at 0.3 grams and secured as evidence in accordance with police procedures. The accused declined to sign official documents but was served accordingly.

He has since been formally charged with possession of a controlled drug. Police say the matter is before the court as investigations continue.
