By Belize Live News Staff: Police have released the names and photographs of two men identified as the pilots captured during a drug plane landing in Neuland over the weekend.
The suspects have been named as Edgar Aguilar Trinidad and Paul Valenzuela Osuna, both Mexican nationals who were detained at the scene shortly after the aircraft touched down on Friday evening.
Authorities say the men were piloting a suspected narco-flight that was tracked from South America before being intercepted in the Corozal District. The aircraft was found carrying more than 551 kilograms of cocaine, which was seized along with the plane.
Law enforcement officers moved in quickly when the aircraft landed around 6:14 p.m., capturing the two pilots and securing the area. Two Belizean nationals were also detained nearby as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police say the release of the suspects’ names and images is part of efforts to advance the investigation and identify others connected to the operation. Officials believe the pilots played a key role in transporting the illicit cargo into Belize.
A parallel investigation remains underway as authorities work to uncover the wider network behind the foiled narco-flight.
