US pressure mounts as Belize weighs Cuban medical program

By Belize Live News Staff: Belize is among several countries facing growing international pressure over its involvement in Cuba’s medical cooperation program.

Reports suggest that the United States has been encouraging countries to end participation, even offering incentives to those who remove Cuban medical personnel.

In recent months, several nations across the Caribbean and Latin America have reportedly complied, sending Cuban doctors back home.

In Belize, the Cuban medical brigade plays a key role in healthcare delivery, with dozens of professionals assisting in hospitals and clinics across the country.

Concerns have been raised that any sudden removal of the team could disrupt healthcare services, especially in underserved communities.

As the government deliberates its next move, the decision is expected to carry significant implications for the nation’s healthcare system and diplomatic relations.
