By Belize Live News Staff: Police have formally charged a Belize City man in connection with the fatal shooting of 26-year-old Edward Saldano, who was killed in broad daylight earlier this month.
Authorities confirmed that 30-year-old Paul Elver Sambula has been arrested and charged with the crime of murder following the shooting incident on Amara Avenue.
Investigators say Saldano was shot at close range before the suspect fled the scene on foot. The attack, which occurred in a busy area of Belize City, was captured on surveillance footage showing the gunman wearing a hood.
According to police, the shooting stemmed from an ongoing conflict between individuals from the same neighborhood. Investigators indicated that threats had reportedly been made before the fatal encounter.
Sambula appeared in court before Senior Magistrate Mannon Dennison, where he was formally arraigned for the murder.
He has since been remanded to the Belize Central Prison until May 6th, when the case will return to court.
Police say the firearm used in the attack has not yet been recovered, and investigations into the incident continue.
