By Belize Live News Staff: A promotional flyer advertising VIP viewing packages for the La Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge has sparked discussion among Belizeans on social media.
The promotion offers paid seating and viewing at a private venue near the race finish line, with prices ranging from $75 for general resort entry to $600 for VIP table seating.
While some see the offering as a way to enhance the viewing experience with food, drinks, and reserved seating, others have expressed concern about the rising costs associated with major national events.
Despite the advertisement, spectators will still be able to watch the race for free from traditional public viewing points, including the Belcan Bridge area.
The conversation online continues as Belizeans share differing opinions about whether premium viewing options add value to the event or risk limiting accessibility.
La Ruta Maya is scheduled to take place from March 6 to March 9, with the final day drawing thousands of spectators in Belize City.
