By Belize Live News Staff: The Government of Belize is warning nationals in Mexico to remain alert amid heightened security concerns.
The travel advisory, issued February 22, comes in response to a major anti-narcotics crackdown in Mexico and subsequent retaliatory activity by criminal elements.
Belizeans are advised to avoid non-essential travel to several Mexican states, including Jalisco, Tamaulipas, Michoacán, Guerrero, and Nuevo León.
Authorities are also urging those in Mérida and northern Quintana Roo to closely monitor official updates and exercise increased caution.
The government stated that while the situation has no direct effect on Belize at this time, it continues to monitor developments and will provide updates if necessary.
