By Belize Live News Staff: A police officer attached to the Traffic Support Unit is before the court on charges stemming from an alleged domestic incident in Belize City.
Phillip Garbutt, 39, appeared in court where he was charged with aggravated assault, wounding, and harm following allegations that he assaulted his common-law wife and her young son.
Reports indicate that the altercation occurred at a residence on Watermelon Street. During the dispute, Garbutt allegedly assaulted his partner, resulting in injuries that were medically classified as wounding.
It is further alleged that the woman’s 8-year-old son was slapped after attempting to intervene. The child’s injuries were classified as harm.
Garbutt was granted bail of $2,000 with conditions, including staying 25 feet away from the complainant. The matter is adjourned until April 16, 2026.
