Tracker disabled after thieves steal skiff “Carlota” in Caye Caulker

By Belize Live News Staff: A late-night theft has left a Caye Caulker boat owner without his vessel after a skiff was reportedly stolen from a docking area near Salties.

Police say the theft occurred on Saturday, January 31st, 2026, at approximately 9:36 p.m., involving a blue/white Lanchan skiff named “Carlota” equipped with a 75 horsepower engine.

The incident was reported shortly before midnight by boat captain Victor Canul, who informed officers that the skiff belongs to Rene Villanueva, who is currently away on a tour and is expected to return today to provide additional details.

Investigators noted that the tracker recorded the skiff being moved from the docking area, but shortly after, the signal went dead, suggesting the device was disabled.

A quick response search was conducted in the Eden Isle area but no leads were found. Police investigations remain ongoing.
