Mechanic hospitalized after colliding with horse cart in Orange Walk

By Belize Live News Staff: A nighttime traffic accident involving a motorcycle and a horse cart has left a Shipyard Village resident injured and hospitalized.

Police say the incident occurred on Sunday evening, January 11, 2026, along a roadway between Shipyard Village and Guinea Grass. The injured motorcyclist, Heinrich Braun, reported that bright headlights from an oncoming vehicle impaired his vision, causing him to lose control of his motorcycle and crash into a horse cart traveling ahead of him.

Braun was later transported to the Northern Regional Hospital, where police observed him being treated in the surgical ward for head injuries and facial bruises. Medical officials indicated that he would be transferred to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for further monitoring.

Police noted that Braun produced a valid driver’s license issued in Orange Walk, which had recently expired. Investigations into the accident are ongoing, and authorities are seeking further information regarding the horse cart and any additional parties involved.
