Orange Walk police checkpoints result in arrest and traffic violations

By Belize Live News Staff: The Orange Walk Road Policing Unit conducted stationary and roving vehicle checkpoints on Saturday, December 13, 2025, between 9:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., along Guinea Grass Road and routes leading to San Jose and San Lazaro villages.

Police said the operation targeted traffic violations, as well as the detection of illegal immigrants, unlicensed firearms, wanted persons, and drugs.

During the exercise, officers inspected approximately 150 vehicles, issuing four traffic tickets and detaining one individual for traffic-related offenses.

The detained individual was identified as Ian Ismael Carrillo, a 20-year-old Belizean construction worker of San Lazaro Village. He was charged for operating an unlicensed motor vehicle, driving without a valid driver’s license, and using a vehicle without third-party insurance.

Carrillo was cautioned and chose to remain silent. He was granted police bail of $500 with one surety and is scheduled to appear before the Orange Walk Magistrates Court on Friday, December 19, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.
