Man detained in Orange Walk for possession of smoking utensil

By Belize Live News Staff: A man was detained in Orange Walk Town after police discovered a utensil suspected to be used for smoking controlled drugs. The incident occurred around 11:25 pm on Thursday, December 4, 2025, while officers were conducting a mobile patrol on Staines Alley.

Police say they observed a male individual running out of a location known to officers as a drug house. The patrol vehicle was stopped and officers approached the man. A search was requested, and police noted that he kept his left hand tightly clenched. When asked to open his hand, officers found a silver pipe with burnt ends, believed to be used for drug consumption.

The man was informed of the offense, placed under arrest, cautioned, and escorted to the Orange Walk Police Station along with the item. There, the pipe was measured at 2 point 5 inches, sealed inside an envelope, and handed over to the exhibit keeper through the required chain of custody.

He was later formally charged for possession of a utensil for smoking controlled drugs. Police say he chose to remain silent after being cautioned. He remains detained pending court proceedings.
