By Belize Live News Staff: The Government of Belize has signaled that it is willing to carefully examine a civil society petition calling for the removal of visa-free entry for Israeli citizens. According to the Foreign Minister, although he has not yet been formally presented with the petition, he is aware of the public advocacy surrounding the issue.
He noted that Belize has historically adopted a consistent moral position on matters affecting Palestine and has not hesitated to speak out when human rights concerns arise. Given this context, he said the petition raises legitimate questions that deserve a fair review process.
The Minister stressed that Belize must always ensure that its immigration policies align with national interests, international law, and the country’s longstanding foreign-policy principles. Any changes to the existing visa arrangements, he said, would require Cabinet-level discussion and a careful assessment of potential diplomatic impacts.
For now, the Ministry awaits the formal submission of the petition before proceeding with any evaluation or recommendation.
