Musa takes charge of Immigration, calling the post a major step up

By Belize Live News Staff: Earlier this week, the Government confirmed that Kareem Musa is now responsible for the Ministry of Immigration, Governance, and Labor. The transition comes after Musa spent the past five years overseeing Home Affairs and New Growth Industries. While some political observers speculated that the shift represented a demotion, Musa publicly rejected that interpretation on Thursday, saying his new Immigration portfolio is in fact a promotion—one that places him at the center of a ministry he believes has tremendous national importance.

In outlining his future plans for the Immigration Department, Musa said the goal is to modernize and digitize longstanding systems to better serve the public. He emphasized that he intends to work closely with international partners to ensure that immigration processes remain secure while becoming far more user-friendly than they are today. According to Musa, the aim is to streamline residency and passport procedures, making them easier to access and less burdensome for Belizeans and qualified applicants.

Musa noted that previous ministers have already laid vital groundwork, but there is significant modernization still ahead. He explained that improvements will not only occur at the Ministry of Immigration but also at the Ministry of Labor, where similar upgrades are needed. He said the focus moving forward will be on efficiency, transparency, and eliminating opportunities for corruption while delivering better service to Belizeans.
