Oscar Mira outlines ambitious plan to rebuild trust in police

By Belize Live News Staff: Following the recent Cabinet reshuffle after the March general elections, newly appointed Minister of Home Affairs, Oscar Mira, is wasting no time addressing the elephant in the room: public distrust in law enforcement. In a recently released video statement, Mira acknowledged the gravity of his new portfolio, describing the Ministry as a “tough” and “challenging” assignment that he does not take lightly.

Mira’s primary objective is a philosophical shift within the department. “There are many things that we can do to ensure that we get back the trust of the Belizean people to the Belize Police Department,” Mira stated. He emphasized that this restoration of confidence is not a solo effort but requires collaboration across various sectors, including the Forensic Department and enterprise units.

Despite the heavy workload, the Minister expressed optimism after initial meetings with his staff. He noted that while the road ahead is not easy, the collective energy of the department is geared toward “moving the ministry forward” and implementing necessary changes to modernize the force.
