Belize City man executed inside apartment compound; two masked gunmen escape

By Belize Live News Staff: Belize City police are investigating a brazen murder that unfolded late Friday night at a Castle Street apartment complex, leaving 36-year-old Byron James dead.

Around 9:55 p.m. on November 14, Northside CIB officers responded to reports of gunfire at #27 Castle Street. Upon arrival, they spoke with a resident who said she heard about five loud bangs that sounded like gunshots. When she looked outside, she saw James lying motionless in front of her apartment.
Initial investigations reveal that James was inside the compound around 9:50 p.m. when two masked men slipped through a fence on the north side of the building and opened fire in his direction. James was struck multiple times and collapsed where he stood. The attackers escaped the same way they entered.
Scenes of Crime personnel processed the area and recovered several expended shells from the scene. Police canvassed the neighborhood, but no useful information has yet been obtained.
James was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:54 p.m. His body now awaits a post-mortem examination.
The investigation continues as police work to establish a motive and identify the shooters.
