By Belize Live News Staff: Police in Orange Walk have arrested and charged two brothers from Santa Martha Village after a family dispute escalated into a violent confrontation involving rocks, insults, a machete, and gasoline-filled bottles.
The incident began around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 8, when 31-year-old Hector Rios was driving with his wife. Rios told police that as they passed his mother-in-law’s home, his brothers-in-law, identified as Edwin and Luis Tun, threw rocks at his truck.
Rios said he stopped to confront them before leaving. However, he drove past the house again later that evening after receiving a call from his wife. This time, Rios reported, the Tun brothers hurled insults at him, including the derogatory term “maricon.”
Police say Rios, enraged, went to his home, armed himself with a machete and two bottles filled with gasoline, and returned to the area.
Before he could reach the house, Rios was allegedly attacked by Edwin and Luis Tun, along with their father. Rios sustained several injuries during the altercation.
Police investigation led to the arrest of Luis and Edwin Tun on Monday, November 10. Both men have been formally charged with the crime of Wounding.
