Cold front chills Belize with strong winds and rough seas

By Belize Live News Staff: A powerful cold front system continues to influence Belize’s weather, bringing cool temperatures, gusty winds, and rough seas across much of the country.

The National Meteorological Service reports that strong north to northwest winds—ranging between 15 to 25 knots—are creating rough to very rough sea conditions, particularly near the coast and offshore. A Small Craft Warning is in effect, advising all boat operators and fishers to remain in safe harbour until conditions improve.

Coastal communities have also been experiencing cooler-than-usual temperatures, with daytime highs barely reaching the mid-70s Fahrenheit. Inland residents can expect chilly mornings and nights, while hilly areas may see temperatures dip to as low as 59°F (15°C).

The cold front, which swept into Belize late Monday, is forecast to linger through Wednesday, maintaining overcast skies and scattered light rain. Forecasters say the front may bring localized flooding in low-lying coastal areas if rainfall intensifies.

Farmers are being encouraged to monitor their crops and livestock closely as the cooler temperatures and wet conditions may affect production. The Ministry of Agriculture is also advising caution for farmers using riverbanks and flood-prone areas.

While no tropical systems are expected in the coming days, the Met Service warns that Belizeans should prepare for a damp and windy week ahead as the cold front gradually weakens and moves eastward.
