Thieves break into Belize Workers Union office, steal laptop and tools

By Belize Live News Staff: A quiet morning in Orange Walk Town turned unsettling after staff of the Belize Workers Union (BWU) discovered that their office on Tate Street had been burglarized overnight.

Reports indicate that around 7:45 a.m. on Monday, a BWU employee arrived at the two-story building and immediately noticed that something was wrong. The burglar bar door on the upper floor had been damaged, showing a hole near the doorknob where thieves apparently forced their way in.

Upon checking inside, the staff member found that a laptop and a D-Walt combo tool set had been stolen. Police were called to the scene, and Scenes of Crime personnel processed the area for fingerprints and other evidence.

Officers also noticed that the BEL meter outside the building had been broken, suggesting the culprits may have cut the power supply before breaking in — possibly to disable lights or surveillance equipment.

No suspects have been detained at this time, but police say they are following several leads and will continue canvassing the area for witnesses or security camera footage that may help identify the perpetrators.

Authorities are once again reminding businesses to strengthen security measures, particularly during nighttime hours. This includes reinforcing locks, installing motion-sensor lighting, and ensuring security cameras are functional and recording.

The stolen items, including the laptop and the D-Walt combo set, are together valued at over $3,000 BZD, and anyone with information is encouraged to call 922 or the Orange Walk Police Station.
