Heavy rain, gusty winds and thunderstorms expected as cold front moves across Belize

By Belize Live News Staff: The National Meteorological Service has issued an alert as a strong cold front sweeps across Belize, bringing heavy showers, thunderstorms, and strong winds over much of the country today.

Forecaster Crystal Rosalez reported that moist and unstable conditions will persist, particularly over southern and coastal areas, where moderate to heavy rainfall is expected later today and into tonight.

Winds are forecasted to shift from north-northeast to north-northwest, increasing to 15–25 knots with squalls. As a result, seas are expected to turn rough to very rough, with waves reaching up to 8 feet.

A Small Craft Caution remains in effect, and the public — especially fishermen and boat operators — are strongly advised to avoid venturing out to sea.

Temperatures are also expected to drop sharply overnight, with coastal areas cooling to around 69°F (21°C) and inland regions seeing lows near 62°F (17°C).

By Tuesday, the cold front is expected to bring cool, windy, and overcast conditions, with lingering light rain mostly over the south and offshore areas.
