Man admits to stealing ex’s underwear, claims it was for witchcraft

By Belize Live News Staff: A Belize City construction worker is in hot water after pleading guilty to stealing his ex-girlfriend’s underwear, claiming he wanted to use it to perform obeah.

The accused, a 32-year-old man, appeared in court unrepresented and was charged with two counts of theft. According to police, the incident occurred around 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 30th, when the victim reportedly caught her ex removing her clothes from her clothesline. The man then fled the scene on a bicycle.

The victim told police that when she checked, she realized that two pieces of her underwear were missing. Shortly after, the accused reportedly called her, admitting that he stole the underwear and intended to use them for obeah, a form of spiritual or mystical practice.

The man, who has a history of previous offenses, pleaded guilty to what has now been dubbed a “panty-theft” case. The court fined him $505, allowing him to leave after paying $200 immediately. This marks his 15th criminal conviction.
