BAHA rejects PSU’s social media statements as libelous and made in bad faith

By Belize Live News Staff: The Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA) has issued a strong response rejecting statements made by the Public Service Union (PSU) on social media on October 28, 2025, calling the comments “libelous, presumptuous, and in bad faith.”

In a press release issued today, BAHA stated that while it refrains from commenting on individual employment matters to protect the privacy and dignity of its employees, the organization follows due process and adheres to established disciplinary procedures outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). This includes the right to notice, the opportunity to respond, and representation.

The Authority confirmed that it has received an increasing number of public reports in recent weeks, prompting internal investigations. It added that when evidence supports findings of gross misconduct, appropriate disciplinary action is taken in line with the CBA.

“Corruption, theft, and dereliction of duties are unacceptable,” the statement said. “Those officers found guilty of such misconduct will be disciplined according to established procedures.”

BAHA emphasized that the PSU was not involved in recent disciplinary matters and had not requested information on behalf of any affected member. The organization therefore considers the PSU’s recent social media post as defamatory and misleading.

BAHA invited the PSU leadership to engage through the dispute-resolution mechanisms provided for in the CBA to address any concerns and reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, integrity, and professionalism in the delivery of its services.

The Authority concluded by thanking its staff who continue to uphold their duties “with professionalism and integrity in the best interest of agriculture and national development.”
