By Belize Live News Staff: The International Partners Conference 2025 opened in Belmopan under the theme “Investing in the Green Transition,” uniting global and regional leaders to accelerate sustainable development and resilience in Belize and the wider Caribbean.
Hosted under the aegis of the International Cooperation Council, the two-day event brings together government officials, development partners, and private sector representatives to strengthen collaboration on climate action and green growth.
Prime Minister John Briceño delivered the keynote address alongside Francis Fonseca, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, Culture and Immigration; Mr. Daniel Best, President of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB); Ms. Karla Gonzalez, IDB Country Representative; and H.E. Amalia Mai, Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade (MFAFT).
Organized by the MFAFT in collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Transformation, the conference underscores Belize’s leadership in climate finance, innovation, and sustainability, aligning with Strategic Objective 5 of the Medium-Term Development Strategy — Protection of the Environment.
Key discussions focus on energy resilience, green infrastructure development, powering employment through education, and financing challenges in the green transition. A high-level panel coordinated by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) — featuring the European Investment Bank, UNDP, World Bank, EU Delegation, and CDB — is exploring how to align financial instruments and regional priorities with Belize’s green transformation goals.
A side event on “Public-Private Partnerships for the Green Transition” highlights collaboration between the government, financial institutions, and renewable energy sectors on projects including battery storage, grid connectivity, and e-mobility.
The International Partners Conference 2025 represents a milestone in Belize’s efforts to mobilize climate financing, foster innovation, and ensure a just and inclusive transition toward a sustainable green economy.
