By Belize Live News Staff: Prominent attorney Dickie Bradley is calling for police officers to be charged immediately in connection with the Joseph Budna abduction case, arguing that the evidence is already clear and that an independent investigation should not be led by police themselves.
Bradley, a former Attorney General, explained that in his view, an independent investigation should be overseen by a respected legal authority or former judge with impeccable integrity, rather than relying solely on in-house police investigators. He stressed that there is already video evidence of officers involved, and that further delays only deepen the public’s mistrust.
“They were seen beating and they were seen dragging the man who ended up in enemy territory. They can be charged,” Bradley said, adding that kidnapping carries serious prison time in Belize and should not be overlooked.
He dismissed government claims that the matter has already been addressed, calling such statements “executive findings” rather than the result of a genuine investigation. Bradley insisted that only a truly independent probe could restore confidence in the system, while pressing that the officers involved should face charges without delay.
