By Belize Live News Staff: Belizeans start the new month under warm and mostly fair weather conditions, with forecasters signaling changes beginning tonight. The National Meteorological Service reports that today will see a mix of sunshine and cloudy spells. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected, with slightly more possible in southern Belize. By tonight, cloudiness and rainfall are forecast to increase, especially along coastal areas and offshore waters.
Winds will blow from the east to southeast at 5 to 15 knots, supporting slight sea states and waves of one to three feet. Fisherfolk and boaters can expect generally calm seas for the day.
Daytime highs will soar to 95°F (35°C) inland, 90°F (32°C) on the coast, and 84°F (29°C) in the hills. Minimum nighttime temperatures will dip to 72°F (22°C) inland, 78°F (26°C) along the coast, and 68°F (20°C) in the higher terrain.
The tropical Atlantic continues to host two hurricanes, though neither threatens Belize. Hurricane Imelda, located west-southwest of Bermuda, is moving east-northeast with sustained winds of 90 mph. Meanwhile, Hurricane Humberto, positioned north-northwest of Bermuda, is carrying winds of 80 mph while tracking northeast.
Forecasters warn that as moisture builds, Belize will see more showers and isolated thunderstorms on Thursday and Thursday night.
For coastal residents and mariners, today’s tides include a low at 12:30 p.m., a high at 6:50 p.m., another low at 11:08 p.m., and the following high at 5:31 a.m. Thursday. Sunrise occurred at 5:43 a.m. with sunset scheduled for 5:41 p.m. Moonrise is set for 1:54 p.m. today, while moonset follows early tomorrow at 1:15 a.m.
