By Belize Live News Staff: A new tax amnesty program has been launched to help Belize’s micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) get back on track with their tax obligations while reducing financial pressure.
The initiative, introduced by BELTRAIDE in partnership with the Belize Tax Service and the Investment Policy and Compliance Unit, offers key benefits such as waivers on penalties and interest from March 7 to October 31, 2023, along with a one-year exemption from business tax once an amnesty certificate is approved.
Officials say the program is designed to be simple and accessible, with MSMEs required only to first obtain a tax identification number before applying. Roadshows and one-stop registration centers across the country will provide direct support to business owners.
Leaders of the program emphasize that MSMEs represent 90 percent of Belize’s established businesses and are critical to national employment. They say this tax break is not only a relief measure but also a chance to strengthen Belize’s economy by giving entrepreneurs room to grow.
The roadshow begins October 1 in Belize City and will conclude October 27 in Belmopan, with stops planned in towns, cities, and even some villages.
