By Belize Live News Staff: The tropics remain active this week with two weather systems under close watch, but neither poses a danger to Belize at this time.
The National Hurricane Center reports that Hurricane Gabrielle is now a Category 4 storm with maximum sustained winds of 140 mph. At 3:00 a.m., Gabrielle was located about 305 miles east-northeast of Bermuda, moving toward the northeast at 13 mph. The system is expected to continue on this track, well away from the Caribbean.
Farther east, forecasters are monitoring a tropical wave (AL93) located less than 1,000 miles east of the Lesser Antilles. This disturbance is producing organized showers and thunderstorms and has a medium chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 48 hours.
While these systems are not expected to impact Belize, the National Meteorological Service reminds residents that the hurricane season is still underway and weather conditions can shift quickly. Belizeans are urged to remain alert and continue monitoring official updates.
