By Belize Live News Staff: San Ignacio/Santa Elena Town Councilor Aaron Mai has taken to social media to appeal for community assistance for Police Constable Karen August, who is in critical condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) after a serious hit-and-run accident.
The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Saturday, September 6th, along the Benque Viejo Road. PC August and her colleague, PC Hamilton, were on a police motorcycle patrol when they were struck and run off the road. While PC Hamilton was treated and released, PC August sustained severe injuries and remains hospitalized in critical condition.
PC August, who previously served at the Santa Elena Police Formation and was recently stationed at the newly opened Kontiki Substation, is described by residents as a friendly and dedicated officer.
In his appeal, Councilor Mai encouraged Belizeans to support a $1 drive and BBQ sale scheduled for this Friday to help raise funds for PC August’s medical treatment. He noted that the officer is not only a protector of the community but also a young mother who now needs the community’s protection and care.
Donations and contributions, he added, will go a long way in helping PC August as she continues her fight for recovery.
