PACT awards $3.2 million in grants to strengthen climate resilience

By Belize Live News Staff: The Protected Areas Conservation Trust has awarded BZ$3,267,756.70 in new grants to support four subprojects under its Building Community Resilience via Transformative Adaptation project. The agreements were signed on August 29, 2025, during Belize’s first-ever Climate Finance Forum hosted by the Ministry of Economic Transformation

The financing, made possible through the Adaptation Fund’s Enhanced Direct Access facility, is designed to build Belize’s capacity to protect communities from the growing impacts of climate change. Over the next five years, these projects are expected to directly impact 48,424 people across 15 communities.

The new grants include safeguarding forest and water resources in the Macal and Mopan River watersheds, strengthening fire response capacity at the Ladyville Fire Station, enhancing fire management in Central Belize through the Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center, and flood disaster mitigation efforts in Orange Walk and Toledo.

PACT, as Belize’s national implementing entity to the Adaptation Fund, plays a leading role in mobilizing and administering climate finance to support long-term adaptation solutions.
