By Belize Live News Staff: Leader of the Opposition, Tracy Panton, is pressing Prime Minister John Briceño to move beyond waiting for a police report and immediately launch an independent investigation into the abduction of Joseph Budna.
In a strongly worded letter to the Prime Minister, Panton urged the release of all surveillance footage related to the case, warning that anything less than full transparency would undermine public trust.
She wrote that the investigation should proceed “without any further delay, in the interest of transparency and public trust.” Panton also stressed that “anything less than an independent, credible investigation will be seen as complicity and cover-up at the highest levels of government.”
With mounting questions about possible police involvement, the Opposition’s demand adds fresh pressure on the Briceño administration. The government has said it is waiting for a police report before making any decisions on further steps.
