Orange Walk consumer confidence surges in July while Toledo slumps, says new SIB Report

By Belize Live News Staff: The Statistical Institute of Belize’s latest Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) highlights a mixed picture for July 2025, with some districts seeing sharp gains while others declined.

Nationally, the index inched up to 45.5, reflecting a 0.6 percent improvement from June. Although still below the optimism threshold of 50, the increase hints at a gradual recovery in household sentiment.

Orange Walk residents reported the strongest rebound, with confidence jumping from 37.9 in June to 42.7 in July. This was driven mainly by a 26.9 percent rise in durable goods sentiment, suggesting residents are more open to making major purchases.

On the other hand, Toledo saw confidence drop from 59.1 to 53.4, the largest monthly decline. The drop was led by a sharp fall in durable goods optimism, which plunged from 59.7 to 46.1.

Across other demographics, women became more optimistic in July, reporting a 2.4 percent increase in overall confidence, while men registered a slight decline. Age groups painted a split picture: those aged 45-54 showed an 8.2 percent rise in sentiment, while younger Belizeans aged 18-24 recorded a steep 6.1 percent decline.
