By Belize Live News Staff: Police have arrested and charged 28-year-old soldier Emil Fernando for sexual assault following an incident in Orange Walk District earlier this week.
The report was made by a 20-year-old waitress who stated that around 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 19, she was clearing a table at her workplace when she was inappropriately touched by one of four men who had been drinking at the establishment since about 5:00 p.m.
The young woman immediately reported the incident to the authorities, and police quickly identified the perpetrator as Fernando. He was taken into custody and later formally charged.
Authorities say investigations into the matter remain ongoing.
