By Belize Live News Staff: Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred in broad daylight at a Puma gas station in Blackman Eddy Village, Cayo District, on Tuesday evening, leaving a businessman injured and $8,000 poorer.
According to reports, the incident happened just before 5:00 p.m. when 44-year-old William Wall, a businessman from Little Belize in the Orange Walk District, stopped at the gas station in the company of David Harder and Jose Heredia.
While they were at the pumps, two men on a motorcycle pulled up. Both wore long-sleeved shirts to conceal their identities. One of the men, armed with a 9mm pistol, confronted Wall and demanded cash.
Wall attempted to flee, prompting the gunman to chase him on foot and fire two shots into the ground. The impact caused a stone to ricochet, striking Wall in the right foot and abdomen. Fearing for his life, Wall handed over a bag containing $8,000 in cash.
The assailants then sped off on their motorcycle toward Teakettle Village. Police responded quickly, securing the area and retrieving two expended 9mm shells from the scene.
Police have not released descriptions of the suspects, but investigations are underway to track down those responsible.
