New Belize banknotes set for launch next week

By Belize Live News Staff: Belize is preparing to launch its newly redesigned currency notes within the next week, marking a major shift in design, material, and symbolism. The Central Bank confirmed that the upcoming series of bills will no longer be printed on paper but on polymer, and will feature updated security features and modern aesthetics.

Perhaps the most talked-about change is the removal of the Queen’s image, which has been replaced with portraits of Belizean national heroes George Price and Phillip Goldson.

The bills were designed by De La Rue International, and earlier this year, the Central Bank hosted a “Know Your Money” session to explain the new features to the public. Gareth Evans, Regional Director at De La Rue, addressed concerns about the notes looking different on screen than in hand and emphasized that the final product will reflect Belizean identity and security standards.

Importantly, the Central Bank has stressed that the old bills will retain their full value. Once deposited at financial institutions, they will be gradually removed from circulation and replaced with the new series—a transition expected to take several years.
