By Belize Live News Staff: A 30-year-old woman has been arrested and charged after allegedly stealing a licensed firearm from a 73-year-old man during a sleepover at his home in Caye Caulker.
Earlier this week, Dennis Gelinas, a longtime resident of the island, reported to police that his firearm had gone missing while he was asleep. He told authorities that he had invited a woman into his home whom he had known from childhood, though he did not know her full name.
Island police launched an investigation and have since tracked down the alleged thief. Authorities have arrested and formally charged Azmin Barrera, 30, with the crime of theft.
The firearm in question was reportedly licensed to the elderly victim. It is not yet known if the weapon has been recovered.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
