Air arrivals to Belize drop again in June amid regional travel slump

By Belize Live News Staff: Tourism arrivals to Belize continue to show signs of strain, with air traffic through the Philip Goldson International Airport (PGIA) declining once again in June 2025. According to newly obtained figures, arrivals were down 7.8% compared to the same period last year.

Domestic air travel has also been impacted, with local flights seeing a 12.8% decrease in passenger numbers for the month of June. The trend mirrors wider regional patterns, as travel across the Caribbean and Central America continues to dip.

Major international carriers servicing Belize, including American Airlines and United Airlines, have reported declines of 10% or more in passenger numbers.

While the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) has not yet updated its performance dashboard for June, previous data indicated a 7.3% drop in arrivals in May 2025 compared to May 2024.

Industry analysts attribute the slump to a combination of factors, including economic uncertainty in the United States, which continues to affect travel demand to the region.

Stakeholders are watching closely to see if the second half of 2025 will bring a rebound, particularly with increased marketing efforts targeting key U.S. and European markets.
