By Belize Live News Staff: The People’s United Party (PUP) has concluded a sweeping victory in the 2025 Village Council Elections, securing 158 of 190 councils and winning 1,104 of the total 1,330 available seats.
The elections, which wrapped up on Sunday, July 6 in Aguacate Village, Toledo District, saw the PUP capturing 83.01% of all seats, with the United Democratic Party (UDP) winning 128 seats (9.62%) and Independents/third parties securing 98 seats (7.37%).
According to a release from the PUP Secretariat, the party highlighted the significant participation of young people under its banner and reaffirmed its commitment to continuing rural development through Plan Belize 2.0.
The PUP thanked the Elections and Boundaries Department, police, public officers, and voters for a peaceful and democratic election process.
