By Belize Live News Staff: The University of Belize has terminated the employment of Dr. Pio Saqui, a faculty member, following an independent investigation into allegations of professional misconduct. The decision, announced in an official release, comes after the University launched a full investigation led by an Ad Hoc Committee and reviewed by external legal counsel.
The committee’s investigation included interviews and evidence-gathering, conducted according to the University’s internal procedures. After examining the findings, the Office of the President sought further legal advice, which confirmed that the conduct in question amounted to gross misconduct under the UB Faculty and Staff Handbook and the Belize Labour Act.
As a result, UB has taken immediate action to terminate Dr. Saqui’s employment, consistent with its disciplinary guidelines. In a statement, UB President Dr. Vincent Palacio emphasized the institution’s ongoing commitment to maintaining the highest ethical and professional standards among faculty and staff.
No further information on the specific allegations has been disclosed, with the University citing confidentiality protections for those involved.
