Con artist cooks up $6,000 food scam; Belmopan restaurants duped

By Belize Live News Staff: A Belmopan woman has been identified as the perpetrator behind a fraudulent scheme targeting several local restaurants. The woman allegedly placed numerous food orders and then presented falsified bank transfer images as proof of payment.

Formosa, Wing Stop, and Chon Saan are among the businesses that fell victim to the scam, with the woman accumulating over $6,000 in unpaid food bills. The fraudulent activity came to light when the owner of Chon Saan restaurant reported the woman to the police, leading to her detention over the weekend.

However, sources reveal that the woman’s father, a prominent Belmopan resident with significant real estate holdings, intervened to prevent his daughter from facing charges. He reportedly settled the outstanding balances with the affected restaurants.
[8:00 AM, 6/20/2024] Management: The affected restaurants are urging other businesses to be vigilant and to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from similar fraudulent activities.
