Long-serving National Assembly Clerk Eddie Webster to retire

By Belize Live News Staff: Eddie Webster, the longest-serving Clerk of the National Assembly in Belize’s post-independence history, is stepping down at the end of the month after 14 years in the role.

Webster, who took office in 2010 under the Barrow administration, unexpectedly continued his tenure under the subsequent Briceno administration. His responsibilities included managing the House’s diverse functions, from representative meetings to committee sessions.

Sources suggest Webster’s relationship with the House Speaker was strained, contributing to a challenging work environment. Despite this, Webster’s leadership saw the introduction of live-streaming for all House meetings on YouTube, enhancing public transparency.

The government has not yet named Webster’s replacement, leaving the future of the National Assembly’s administrative leadership uncertain. Webster’s departure marks the end of a significant chapter in Belize’s parliamentary history.
