Government of Belize warns public of illegal online gaming operations and misinformation

By Belize Live News Staff: The Government of Belize is warning the public against online gaming companies that are falsely claiming to hold legal licenses or are spreading misinformation about online gaming regulation in Belize.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Finance, Investment, Economic Transformation, Civil Aviation, and E-Governance, the government clarified that Belize currently has a moratorium in place on the issuance of online gaming licenses. As such, no companies are currently licensed to operate online gaming activities from Belize, and no new licenses will be issued until further notice.

“All entities claiming to possess an online gaming license from Belize must immediately cease and desist,” the notice reads, warning that any such operations are unauthorized and illegal under the Gaming Control Act.

The Ministry further advises the public and online users to avoid engaging or doing business with companies making such claims, as their services are not recognized or approved by the Gaming Control Board.

The announcement comes amid concerns that certain websites are misleading consumers and potential investors by falsely associating with Belize’s regulatory framework.

For more information on the moratorium and Belize’s online gaming licensing regime, the Ministry of Investment is urging the public to contact their Investment, Policy & Compliance Unit.
