By Belize Live News Staff: Home security cameras have helped Orange Walk police solve the theft of a bicycle from a residence in Otro Benque.
Police have charged Eustaquio Pott of Santa Martha Village with theft in connection with the green beach cruiser, which was taken from the owner’s verandah on October 24.
The owner told police she had left the bicycle unlocked in her fenced yard, which has no gate, before heading to work early that morning. When she returned before noon, it was missing.
Her six security cameras showed a slim man of about 50 taking the bicycle. She identified him as someone she has known for over a year.
The bicycle, valued at $420, was later turned over to police and photographed as evidence.
Officers spotted Pott on Palmar Road on Monday and arrested him. He was formally charged on Tuesday after police obtained a warrant.
Police are reminding residents to lock their bicycles and other property, even inside fenced yards, and say surveillance cameras can make a real difference in solving crimes.
