By Belize Live News Staff: Support for Belize’s relationship with Taiwan crosses party lines.
UDP Leader and Opposition Leader Tracy Panton joined the celebrations marking Taiwan’s 115th National Day, celebrated on October 10, and used the occasion to highlight the strong bond between the two countries.
Panton said Belize and Taiwan have enjoyed 37 years of diplomatic ties under governments of both parties. She said she hopes the friendship continues to grow through shared values, cooperation and the connection between the two peoples.
Her message comes just over a week after Taiwan’s Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung visited Belize, where the two governments signed agreements to establish the Taiwan Caribbean Academy at the University of Belize and to train Belizean diplomats.
Belize is one of a small number of countries that maintain formal diplomatic relations with Taiwan, which has supported development projects across Belize for decades.
Panton closed her message wishing Taiwan a National Day filled with pride and joy.
