Landowner pays $10,000 for clearing mangroves without permit

By Belize Live News Staff: A landowner has paid $10,000 to the Forest Department after clearing red mangroves without a permit.

The department inspected the property at Mile 6.5 on the Philip Goldson Highway on September 17 following concerns about land clearing and possible mangrove alteration.

Officers found that red mangroves had been altered during the clearing. While the affected area was less than a quarter acre, no permit had been obtained for the work.

The matter was resolved through an out of court settlement on Wednesday, September 30. The landowner agreed to pay $10,000 in full and final settlement.
