BTIA urges Government and BTB to boost Toledo’s visibility

BTIA urges Government and BTB to boost Toledo's visibility

By Belize Live News Staff: The tourism industry says Toledo’s flight crisis is a wake up call.

The Belize Tourism Industry Association (BTIA) says Tropic Air’s pullout from Punta Gorda highlights the need for the Government and the Belize Tourism Board to work closely with local stakeholders to raise Toledo’s profile and drive demand.

BTIA President Efren E. Perez said the association understands Tropic Air’s need to make commercially sustainable decisions, but the moment must spark action to build awareness of Toledo and support its long term development.

BTIA says it will work with the area representative, its Toledo Chapter and partners to develop strategies that turn interest into visits and business.

The association pointed to Toledo’s cultural heritage, natural attractions and community tourism as a strong foundation.

It also thanked Toledo Chapter Chairman Robert Pennell for organizing a productive discussion on the issue.

The call adds to concerns from Opposition Leader Tracy Panton and former PG Mayor Ashton McKenzie ahead of the station’s November 1 closure.
