By Belize Live News Staff: Students in Seine Bight are asking for computers. The lab is built. The equipment is ready. But without internet, the doors are effectively closed.
Lynn Upham, who has helped lead the effort to set up the Seine Bight library and computer lab, is calling in favours.
In a public post, she said students coming to the library are telling her their homework must now be done online and that they need computers.
The project has been two years in the making, backed by Believe in Belize, Placencia Rotary, Belize Parrotheads and many individual donors.
What is holding it up, she says, is a request for free internet from DIGI that has gone unanswered for over three months.
Upham is appealing to anyone with influence to intercede on the community’s behalf.
“I’m Belizean now. I know the drill. But COME ON!” she wrote.
DIGI has not publicly commented on the request.
