By Belize Live News Staff: The Belize River is getting more eyes on it, and they belong to the people who live along its banks.
Friends for Conservation and Development (FCD) held a meeting this weekend with leaders from Santa Familia, Spanish Lookout, Esperanza, Ontario, Roaring Creek and More Tomorrow to discuss community monitoring of the river.
Under the GEF6 project, FCD’s main role is to raise awareness and strengthen environmental stewardship in 13 communities located along the Belize River.
The goal is to empower residents to play an active part in protecting one of the country’s most important waterways.
