Belize wants climate change conversation to move from reports into everyday life

By Belize Live News Staff: The Government is taking a new approach to climate education with the launch of the Belize Climate Ready Campaign, an initiative designed to bring climate information directly to the public.

The campaign will run for nine months and is intended to explain how climate change affects everyday life in Belize, from communities and livelihoods to national development.

The Climate Change Department is leading the campaign alongside UNDP, with support from EUROCLIMA.

Belizeans can expect educational videos, radio and television appearances, infographics, brochures, social media material and community engagement activities.

One of the campaign’s central goals is to explain Belize’s climate commitments and the policies being developed to strengthen resilience and reduce emissions.

It will also explain the role of the Climate Change Department and the country’s emerging carbon market framework.

Belize already has institutions working on climate finance and resilience, including the Climate Finance Unit, which coordinates access to international climate financing and works with government, private sector and civil society partners.

The new public campaign is intended to complement those efforts by making climate policy easier for ordinary citizens to follow.

Organizers are also encouraging Belizeans to share their own experiences of climate change and participate in discussions over the coming months.
