By Belize Live News Staff: A morning police patrol on Caye Caulker resulted in a charge for smoking cannabis in public.
Police say officers were patrolling the Bahia area at around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday when they observed a man riding a black bicycle while smoking what appeared to be a cigarette.
According to the report, officers detected the smell of cannabis and stopped the rider.
The cigarette was confiscated and was reportedly found to contain a green leafy substance suspected to be cannabis.
The man was later identified as 28 year old Honduran labourer Brayan Sosa.
Police escorted him to the Caye Caulker Police Station, where the suspected cannabis cigarette was packaged and sealed as evidence.
Sosa was formally arrested and charged with smoking cannabis in public.
He was granted station bail and is due to appear before the San Pedro Magistrate Court on September 15.
