By Belize Live News Staff: Here is where the Kennedy Carrillo case actually stands.
Belize’s representative to the International Civil Aviation Organization was picked up by Canadian police in late July over a reported domestic dispute in which she was named the alleged aggressor.
Belize did something governments rarely do. It waived part of her diplomatic immunity so the investigation could go ahead.
That was the easy part.
What follows is entirely in Canadian hands. Belize cannot charge her, cannot conclude the matter, and cannot reasonably remove her from a post over an allegation that has not been tested. So it waits.
Foreign Minister Francis Fonseca told Love FM there has been no word from Toronto yet, and that any decision comes after the report lands.
Meanwhile Carrillo holds a seat Belize fought to win. The country was elected to ICAO’s 36 member council in 2025 and she was appointed that September.
The Ministry has restated its zero tolerance position on gender based violence throughout.
What happens next is being decided in another country.
