Ask any Belizean what the best month is and most will say September.
Here is why, and where to base yourself.
*The celebrations.* September 10 for the Battle of St. George’s Caye. September 21 for Independence. Three weeks of parades, jump ups, carnival and pageants in between.
*The prices.* Green season rates are the lowest of the year, and several properties are running local specials right now that will not exist by Christmas.
*The country is at its greenest.* Rivers full, waterfalls running hard, jungle at full volume.
*The sites are quiet.* Xunantunich, Caracol, the caves. Half the visitors you would find in January.
*The food.* Every celebration comes with a street food setup, and September is when the country cooks.
Now, where to stay.
